God’s Undying Love

Design: Blessed Ong

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” ~ John 15:13 (NIV)

God’s expression of love: His life put on the line to rescue us, to give us life and have it more abundantly.

Season of Lent: Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent which is 46 days away from Easter (or Resurrection) Sunday. In the Bible, the use of ashes symbolized the frailty of humanity, mourning, and repentance (e.g. Genesis 3:19; Job 42:5,6; Matthew 11:21). The season of Lent is a 40-day period, excluding Sundays, as a time of fasting, reflection, and repentance, and capped by celebration on Resurrection Sunday. The 40-day period is significant as it reflects Christ’s wilderness experience, where he fasted and was tempted by Satan. Christians see Lent as intentional setting aside of time for fasting, reflecting on and identifying with the life, ministry, sacrifice, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Christ has Risen… or has he?

“He is not here, but He has risen. … the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.” (Luke 24:6-7, NAS)

“He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying. Go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead…” (Matthew 28:6-7, NAS)

How is it possible that Jesus Christ who died on Good Friday could be alive again on Easter Sunday? Is there evidence to prove the claim of Christ’s resurrection? Listen to this Easter Sunday message entitled “This Changes Everything!” based on John 20:1-18 by Rev Dr Ian Buntain of Grace Baptist Church, Singapore, to hear the compelling evidence (watch it below).

Why is Good Friday… good?

Why is Good Friday considered “good”?
For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed. All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; but the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him. And He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; “for by His wounds you were healed.” For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.
