EAST Chapel: Talk Show on Love
The EAST Chapel theme for this semester is “The Greatest Of These Is Love” based on 1 Corinthians 13. Each Chapel Service is organized by a different Mentoring Group (MG) of faculty and students with the freedom of format but focused on the theme.
1 Corinthians 13 begins with: “If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal” (v. 1, NIV). The last chapel service saw the organising MG using a talk show format to creatively introduce the biblical theme of love. There is perhaps no better way to start a semester with a resounding call and timely reminder to love each other selflessly especially within the body of Christ as expressed locally through the EAST community.

Glory to God Alone – Soli Deo Gloria
In recognition of the 500th Anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, the theme for EAST Chapel Service this semester is the “Five Solas.” At a recent Chapel, Dr Raymond Song, an EAST Resident Faculty, spoke on “Glory to God Alone.”
He illustrated the need for believers, churches, and Christian organizations to do all things only for God’s glory through the life of Johann Sebastian Bach, a believer and German composer and musician of the Baroque period (1600-1750 AD). A particularly famous and moving piece is the “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.” Johann would pen J.J. at the beginning of each piece he composed and S.D.G. at the end. J.J. stands for “Jesus Juva” in Latin which means “Jesus Help Me.” S.D.G. is “Soli Deo Gloria” or “For the Glory of God Alone.”
May we be challenged to humbly and consistently do all for His glory only.
