New Student: Sebastian Tramitz from Germany

Below is a short reflection of our new student Sebastian Tramitz from Germany. He is embarking on a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministry at EAST while relocating to Singapore and embracing a new culture, or many new cultures at EAST and equipping himself here. His short reflection of his journey to EAST is below.
I know about EAST through various people I met on my journey of finding my path to change location to Singapore. One key person was a board member of EAST whom I met at the church I attended. He got me in touch with Cru Singapore through another person on the board of Cru. He then connected me with a Cru ministry leader and alumnus of EAST, which finally led to the meeting of Jonathan Yao and a site visit on which I made a decision that I want to apply.
Alumnus Matthew’s Calling to Mongolia

EAST Alumnus Matthew Ong graduated from EAST with a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministry in 2018. He received God’s calling to Mongolia through a pastor’s light-hearted response to a baby’s cry in his congregation, “Is there a Mongolian baby crying in our midst?”
That question was God’s prompt in his heart back in 2014, which led to a friendship with the first Mongolian family (Luya and Tuul) attending his home church, Glory Presbyterian Church. Between then and now, Matthew has made four to five trips to Mongolia itself, getting to know the country and the people better.
Updates from The Stroks
Imro and Cynthia Stroks are EAST Alumni who graduated in 2017. With their Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministry, the couple served in Timor Leste for six months. They had been sent there by their home church under the care of a mission agency. Originally, the plan was to spend a year in the capital of Timor Leste, Dili, to learn the local language. The COVID pandemic forced them to return home in March 2020.
Alumnus Ministers Among Migrant Workers

EAST alumnus Daniel Yeo graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministry in 2016. When he was an EAST student, he was introduced to HealthServe for his practicum which he later joined as a staff. Recently, he was featured in The Straits Times for his good work among the migrant workers in Singapore through his ministry there. Here is an excerpt:
Mr Yeo, who has been a case worker with HealthServe for five years, said his most memorable case surfaced recently. It involved Mr Rahaman, 38, a Bangladeshi who suffered a stroke as he was battling Covid-19. He overcame the infection but was paralysed on the left side of his body and lost his speech ability because of the stroke. Mr Yeo wanted to do more to comfort the patient during his weekly visits, so he would pack Bangladeshi food for Mr Rahaman to have a taste of home. He also facilitates video calls between the Bangladeshi and his family. Mr Yeo said: “Even though he couldn’t speak, I could see that he was so happy to be able to hear the voices and see the faces of his wife and daughters.”
