Alumnus Amos Chew: Let Others Feed Us

Amos is doing pottery as part of his FIRM (Formation, Integration, Reflection and Ministry) class.

Amos, 34, believes that as a leader, he must let others feed him.

“We cannot stop learning,” says the UK-trained sports coach who served on missions in the Philippines, and was trained by GLO in Australia.

Ruth Hwmay: My First Semester of Studies @EAST

Ruth Hwmay is a new student from Myanmar and studying Graduate Diploma in Theological Studies. She worships and serves with Agape Baptist Church in Singapore. She shares about her first semester of studies at East Asia School of Theology (EAST) below.

While I have previously not considered attending a seminary, yet this semester marked the beginning of my first year of seminary studies. This semester, I took four subjects: Christian Marriage, World Mission, Exposition of Matthew, and Spiritual Life and Transformation. Each of them provided me with a transforming understanding of God that I had not experienced before.

Contextualisation & Worldview (Onsite) – Day Course

Contextualisation & Worldview (Onsite)
IS520, 3 Credits
Fridays, 9.00 am – 12.00 pm

This course introduces what is worldview, its relation to culture, and what it means to contextualise the Christian gospel and theology. Students will learn about different forms of worldviews and cultures, and biblical principles of contextualising Christian theology and the gospel. This course will also identify themes, issues and methods of contextualisation, especially for the Asian context. This aims to help students develop strategies to contextualise the Christian gospel and theology meaningfully in their own church and ministry contexts. Prerequisite: AD500 Orientation to Theological Studies.

Alvin Tey, PhD, serves as Resident Faculty (Intercultural Studies) in EAST. He concurrently serves with Operation Mobilisation (OM), where he is currently involved in the training, equipping and care of missionaries sent to serve across East Asia. He previously served in OM’s transformational development ministries among poor and marginalized least-reached peoples and communities in Southeast Asia. Alvin is married to Kalene and they have three children, Natalie, Charlotte and Josiah. In his free time, Alvin enjoys history and sports.

Jarred Jung, PhD, joined Cru in 2006 and ministers in Asian contexts. He has worked in campus ministry and most recently has lectured in developing seminaries. His passion is for teaching students how to apply theology to every square inch of their life through the lens of the Bible. He enjoys talking with students about theology, hosting people for dinners, and most of all living life with his wife Shelley and his three children.
