Are People Feeling Lonely in Church?

Are you lonely? If you are, you are not alone. Rev Dr Tan Soo Inn, a panellist at the upcoming The Silent Pandemic: Loneliness in the Churches seminar, writes about the danger of loneliness found in today’s churches.

Rev Tan cites studies of urban church worshippers who found friendly believers in churches but not friends. This is coupled with the negative effect of loneliness being like that of obesity and smoking. Churches are gospel communities of those reconciled to God and to fellow man. How then do churches get their “relational act together” in addressing the issue of loneliness?

Singapore Charismatic Renewal Started in 1972

Credits: https://revival1972.thirst.sg/

Mr Thomas Franks, husband of EAST alumna, Ms Hannah Zhong, produced (and initially researched and wrote) a church history documentary video on the Charismatic renewal movement that started in 1972, dubbed Revival 1972: When the Holy Spirit stirred the schools of Singapore.

In the words of Thomas, “By documenting the sovereign move of the Holy Spirit in Singapore starting in 1972, the video aims to inspire the next generation to seek God & His purposes. So far, the documentary has had an amazing impact at live screenings in churches even over this weekend [of 23-24 July 2022]! … As we honour & remember God’s work in the past, may we also look ahead in hope to what God will do both now & in the future!”

Calling Everyone: Memories of EAST in the Past 30 Years

EAST is celebrating 30 years of “developing servant leaders!”

It has been an incredible journey and we are so thankful that you have been a part of these 30 years. To celebrate our history, we are producing a booklet to remember the Lord’s goodness to us in these 30 years.

If you are a current or past student, staff, or faculty of EAST, we would like to invite YOU to share YOUR story about the school with us.

It can be a story (of not more than 300 words), a poem or a drawing (with explanation). Here are some prompts:

1. My fondest memories of EAST.

2. My greatest lesson in EAST.

3. How did EAST impact my life.

Selected entries that will be featured in the booklet will receive a token of appreciation from us. Please email your story by 20 August 2022 to eliza@east.edu.sg.

Thanks so much for sharing your stories of EAST.
