Theology of Missions (Day Course)

Theology of Missions (Online), IS540, 3 Credits
Thursdays, 9.00 am-12.00 pm

Theological foundations for the global mission of the church to help you unify and integrate a wide range of theological themes in and around the issues of mission. Issues that confront the contemporary missionary will be investigated.

Audit students must read all required readings to maximise the learning experience – textbooks and additional reading materials uploaded on Populi.

Raymond Song, PhD, served with Cru for 15 years in the USA and Japan (Tokyo and Osaka), and in pastoral ministry among Korean-American churches for 19 years. He and his wife, Justine Han, also served with the Distance Education program at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (USA). Raymond and Justine are blessed with two adult children.

Contextualisation (Day Course)

Wednesdays, 9.00 am-11.00 am 

This course examines the process involved in the contextualisation of theology and ministry, identifying themes and methods appropriate for the Asian context. Using the framework of critical contextualisation, the class will examine the issues that arise in contextualising. Students will also develop strategies to contextualise meaningfully in their church and ministry. [Cross-listed with TS570].

Kevin Lowe, DMin, holds a Doctor of Ministry in Contextual Leadership and Cultural Anthropology from Asbury Theological Seminary. He has taught courses in several seminaries in Southeast Asia and served as a pastor and missionary for 16 years, the latter half as a tentmaker running several businesses. He believes in holistic missions, thus is passionate about marketplace and BAM related ministries etc, those that seek to empower. He is married with 3 children.

This course provides an effective and practical approach to equip you to build communities of Spirit-filled multipliers by following Jesus’ example and strategy.

Pre-requisite: IS401 Evangelism and Follow-Up Seminar.

Liong Kwok Wai, MDivhas been serving as a staff member of Cru Singapore since 1999.  He has ministered among campus students, church planters and community leaders in Singapore and East Asia.  He was also involved in training full-time Christian workers and leadership development.

Bible Study Methods and Hermeneutics (Day Course)

Tuesdays & Fridays, 11.00 am-12.30 pm

How to study the scriptures on your own systematically, contextually, and independently, and be surprised by the riches of God’s Word as you study through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Pre-requisite or concurrent with: LF500 Research and Writing for Christian Leadership.

Audit students are strongly encouraged to participate in class exercises and do course-listed assignments to maximise their learning experience as part of acquiring the requisite bible study skills.

Amy Lau, ThM, graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary (USA), and has taught Bible and theological classes since 2002. She served on the pastoral team at St. John’s – St. Margaret’s Church before joining EAST as a resident faculty.  Amy is a creative teacher who challenges her students to interact with God’s Word critically.

Biblical Foundations 1 (Day Course)

Biblical Foundations 1 (Concurrent)

Thursdays, 9.00 am-12.00 pm

Focuses on foundational knowledge and synthetical understanding of the Old Testament including composition and authorship, authority and reliability, history, major themes, and the importance of the Old Testament in Christian living, ministry, and understanding of the New Testament.

(Concurrent courses are held both onsite and online simultaneously. Credit students who are Singapore residents can only take the course onsite. Audit students can choose either onsite or online.)

 

Napitchaya (Su) Panum, ThM, comes with ministry experiences of working with college students in Thailand and the USA. She received her ThM from Dallas Theological Seminary (USA). Su desires to use her training to equip students to actively engage in God’s word with both heart and mind.
