Holy Saturday
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” John 3:16 (ESV)
On this Holy Saturday, we wait in quiet anticipation, holding onto the hope of resurrection and return. Rev Christopher Chan, Acting Vicar of St Andrew’s Cathedral, has this to say:
On Holy Saturday, we find ourselves in a period of waiting: the darkness of Good Friday still surrounds us as we yearn for the joy of Easter Sunday. Perhaps this mirrors an ongoing painful experience from which we long to be delivered? May we wait patiently for redemption and vindication from God, holding fast to the hope of resurrection life in the new creation, where we shall see His face and rejoice in His presence forevermore. Blessed Good Friday
“For while we were still weak, at the right time God died for the ungodly.” Romans 5:6
Good Friday – It is good because we who are sinners have a good, good God who died for our sins.
For those who wish to recapitulate what the Holy Week is all about (for which the Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday stand as the resultant endpoints) please see our blog post on “The Holy Week of Lent.”
Blessed Good Friday to all from EAST President, Faculty, Staff and Students!
Inter College Games 2024
On 1 March 2024, five seminaries gathered at Trinity Theological College for the annual Inter College Games. Everyone gathered at the Bukit Panjang Methodist Church Sanctuary which was on the same grounds for a time of worship before the games kicked off. The games that were contested included a 5km rail corridor run, tele-match, table-tennis, captain’s ball, football, frisbee, chess, e-games, cooking mama, and bible quiz. We are grateful to the Student Councils of all the participating Bible schools for organising the various events.
EAST Podcast: Creation Part 1 – Young Earth View
The Bible repeatedly holds up a few key events as evidence of the divine power and sovereignty of God. One of these events is the creation of the world (Isaiah 40:26, Psalm 33:6-9, Romans 1:20).
Throughout history, Christians have strongly affirmed that God created the world by his command, out of nothing. And indeed, affirming that God is the one who created all things is a core tenet of the Christian faith.
Recently though, debates have emerged over exactly how God created the world. Beginning with Darwin’s theory of evolution and continuing with modern scientific assertions that the earth is around 4.54 billion years old, Christians have been confronted with a continuous attempt by the scientific community to explain the origin and nature of the world on purely naturalistic terms, without any reference to God.
