Alumni Updates from Ukhrul, Manipur
EAST alumni Asung Pharung and Nim Muivah graduated in May 2019 with a Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies and Partners in Ministry Certificate respectively. They have since returned to life in a small town, Ukhrul, Manipur, Northeast India with a population of 92,000 people. Just last Saturday, the Pharungs welcomed their third child, a newborn baby girl named Selah Pharung on 16 Jan 2021. Life has indeed been full and fruitful for them.
Pray for the Church in Malaysia
Dr Alex Tang, a church elder and an EAST adjunct faculty, recently wrote of how the church in Malaysia has responded to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and made a call to prayer as Malaysia faces another wave of the pandemic.
In it, he noted how the past year has been “the great reset” for Malaysian Christians: churches going digital, a revitalised body life centred around small groups, Christians seeking to know the Scripture and Christian theology more, “flourishing partnerships” among churches, innovative ministries to the needy affected by the pandemic, and a deeper dependence on God. With that as a backdrop, Dr Alex urged continuing prayers for the Malaysian Church as they now face an unprecedented State of Emergency declared by the Malaysian government valid until August 2021 due to the renewed intensity of the pandemic.
Mikeel Arana on a Mission
Mikeel Arana is our first year Master of Arts in Christian Ministry student from the Philippines. He has been enrolled since last July but due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation around the region, he has been studying online. He was recently featured in a video sharing about using his multimedia skills for the Lord.
“I started my graphic design and video editing journey at church. I still remember the first youth event poster I made with PowerPoint and the first PAW Fest video made with Windows Movie Maker. Haha! Never did I imagine that I’d get to do what I do now—making graphics and videos for churches, ministries, and brands. God has given me these gifts and I want to serve Him with the gifts He has given me. Moreover, He’s given me the gift of life so now I live my life for Him.” – Mikeel Arana
