Catching up with Alumna from Manila

It has been nearly five years since Guia has graduated from EAST and we recently caught up with this lady who has been busy in the media industry and has been stationed in Manila over the past year due to the worldwide pandemic. Guia Karla Gonzales graduated from EAST with an MA in Christian Ministry in 2016. Below is an interview with her along with some prayer requests:
- What have you been keeping busy with since graduating from EAST?
I have had the pleasure and privilege of producing content – various media, mostly videos – for Christian organisations. By producing, I mean a combination of research & writing (or co-writing), creative direction, production management, and team building. Sometimes I get to shape and see-through strategies for marketing and distribution of content, but often I leave that to the expertise of the organisations who are more familiar with their audiences.

Soul care for Lent
The above slides were put together by Dr Lau Ying Kheng to remind us the importance of soul care and self-care during this Lenten season. When you feel sad because you miss home, or stressed because of unending work, stop what you are doing, get out and take a stroll in the park, smell the greens, touch the soil, speak to the Master, let Him still the storms in your heart. Better yet, switch off your phone.
With just five minutes of exposure to nature, “you can improve your self-esteem” and restore your perspective.

Ministry Update from Manipur
Alumnus Pammiyo Kasar and wife Athot
Pammiyo Kasar, who graduated in May 2018 with a Master of Divinity in InterCultural Studies, sent his February 2021 ministry update to EAST from Manipur and shared that 2020 has been a year of struggle and hardship for many. Amidst the struggles and sufferings, there are still reasons to rejoice and be thankful to God. He and his wife Athot have experienced God’s provision, protection and healing grace.
Lessons from Ravi Zacharias’ life
Merely eight months ago, the Christian world was giving Dr Ravi Zacharias a warm send-off at his funeral in May 2020. He was recognised as a well-respected apologist and hailed as the C.S. Lewis of our day. Fast forward eight months later to February 2021, Ravi Zacharias International Ministry (RZIM), the organisation founded by the namesake, accepted an independent investigative report that concluded there were numerous sexual abuses by the late founder involving a number of women over a substantial period of time. This is grievous news to many and a release for those who have been victims. We are thus providing a few resources gleaned globally and locally in response to the scandal.
