CNY MG Outreach 2023

 

On 1 Feb 2023, the eleventh day of the Chinese New Year, five Mentoring Groups (MG) together with the Advancement and Academic staff went to the Joo Chiat neighbourhood with goodie bags of groceries and CNY greeting cards as a blessing for the community.

We had opportunities to interact with the residents and shop keepers in our neighbourhood. For our new international students, it was an eye-opening learning experience to be part of this outreach to connect with our neighbours this festive season. This has provided a bonding time to serve together as an MG.

This event was organised by both students and faculty. This was a time for our teaching faculty to serve together with our students and be part of their learning experience outside the classroom. In this way, our students were also being developed in leadership and ministry skills. This is part of what we do at EAST to develop our students holistically in the head, heart and hands.

The residents we met were welcoming and some even invited us into their homes for drinks, photo-taking and sharing in this festive time of celebration as a community. We are truly thankful for this opportunity to be a blessing to our neighbourhood during this festive Chinese New Year.
