Worldwide Day of Prayer Over Zoom

Worldwide Day of Prayer (WWDP) is an event held bianually, usually in April and October. The event is a collaboration between CRU and EAST to set apart a day to spend in prayer.

For the first time, the event was held digitally instead of in-person. Over Zoom, the theme of the event was aptly named “Renew” in view of the renewal of leadership both locally at Cru Singapore level and globally under Cru International.

The community received greetings from the newly appointed Cru International President Steve Sellers. There was also a segment within the event where the entire community prayed over the new incoming Country Leader Goh Hock Chye.

Despite not being able to meet up physically to worship God and pray, God still met us through the providence of technology. Below are some reflections from people in various phases of their journey with EAST.

“Much has happened in my life in recent months, and conversation with God has become a daily affair – sometimes talking, sometimes crying, sometimes complaining, sometimes arguing. There were moments when God spoke and struck me at my heart. But often he remained silent. Thus, I came to the WWDP with mixed expectations. Will God show up? During the Lectio Divina, my heart raced as I heard Isaiah 43:18-21 read to us, and I heard the Lord spoke to me clearly, “Forget the former things… See, I am doing a new thing!” I repented in my heart of unbelief. Lord, thy will be done.” – Dr Jeremy Chew, EAST Lecturer

“It was my first time to join the WWDP. I was happy to be able to join my EAST family even though I’m still in the Philippines. It was also good to see my friends from Cru Singapore whom I haven’t seen in a while. I was encouraged by our time of prayer together. I got to know the stories of other participants, and heard how God is working in their lives. Indeed, God is “making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland” despite the pandemic. – Mikeel Arana, 1st year student from the Philippines

“Glad we did a combined Day of Prayer with EAST. Being able to catch up and pray with my pals from there was really nice. Witnessing the commissioning of our new Country Leader on Zoom was meaningful in its own way; less of a fanfare but no less significant a moment.” – Patrick Ng, EAST Alumnus/Cru Staff
