Academic policies
Academic status
To graduate from any master’s degree or graduate certificate programme, a student must obtain at least a cumulative grade point average (G.P.A.) of 2.5 or higher. Graduating from a bachelor’s degree programme requires a G.P.A. of 2.25 or higher. Students are placed on academic probation when their cumulative average falls below the required grade. Any student whose G.P.A. falls below 2.0 for any quarter will be asked to leave the programme.
Students will remain in good standing with the school if they conduct themselves with spiritual and moral integrity, maintain the required G.P.A., and meet their financial obligations to the school. The administration reserves the right to dismiss any student whose academic, spiritual, moral, or financial integrity is unsatisfactory.
Time limits on degree programmes
The time limits for completion of the various programmes are as follows:
- Seven years for the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree.
- Five years for a Master of Arts (M.A.) or Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Christian Ministry degree.
- Five years for the Graduate Certificate.
The time limit starts from the date the student begins studies at EAST after having been accepted into the respective degree programmes.
Students desiring to complete their programmes of studies within the stipulated time, should follow the sequencing of classes offered by the school as much as possible.
Leave of absence
A student must officially apply for a leave of absence from his/her programme and seek approval from the school. The school may grant a leave of absence for a total of two years to an M.Div. student and one year for an M.A. and B.A. student.
